  • Odoo 20 website: AI assistant, SEO and GEO, what really changes
  • Odoo 20 website: AI assistant, SEO and GEO, what really changes

    October 2, 2026 by

By Timothy Jacqmin, co-founder of Nexuro Digital · October 2026

    TL;DR

    • With Odoo 20, the Website Builder's AI assistant creates a full page, a form or an interactive block from a description, edits the menu and can even take inspiration from an existing URL.
    • On the SEO side, four technical improvements really matter: structured data added by default, a sitemap limited to indexable pages, adaptive images for mobile and static page URLs translatable per language.
    • On the GEO side, Odoo 20 lets you create an llms.txt file to help language models understand the site.
    • AI SEO optimisation fills in titles, descriptions and keywords. It is a good starting point, not a strategy: it does not choose your topics, measure demand or get you cited by others.
    • If you already add your own JSON-LD markup, check for duplicates after the upgrade.

We build Odoo websites and handle SEO for Belgian SMEs, and our own site runs on Odoo. So we looked at the Website side of Odoo 20 with a precise question in mind: what actually helps a page rank on Google and get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity or AI Overviews, and what is just editing comfort? Here is our breakdown.

What changes in the Odoo 20 website?

The Odoo 20 website is largely built through conversation: the AI assistant creates pages, forms and blocks from a description, while the editor has been modernised and several technical SEO settings are now enabled by default. As before, Odoo offers the website for free as long as it is the only app used, and the new AI features consume IAP credits.

How does the Odoo 20 website AI assistant work?

The Odoo 20 AI assistant turns a description into a complete page: it chooses and edits blocks, adds images (from Unsplash or generated), retrieves content from the web and can use the records in your database, such as your products or events. The official demo shows it in one sentence: you describe the ideal page and it builds instantly.

The release notes detail what the assistant can do:

    • Create new pages and edit them, taking inspiration from other websites if you ask.
    • Replicate a page from a URL you provide.
    • Create or edit web forms.
    • Reorganise the menu: create, rename, move, nest or delete items.
    • Add interactive elements: counters, tabs, toggles, animations.
    • Build a custom block when no standard block fits.

Two safeguards are worth noting: the "Select Elements" option lets you point precisely to the block to change, and blocks generated or modified by AI are flagged in the editor, which makes reviewing easier.

When creating a site, the configuration wizard also suggests a positioning (for example luxury or eco-conscious) based on the type of business, and adapts the site style to the brand.

Our view: the "replicate a page from a URL" option is useful to reuse a structure, but it does not entitle you to reuse someone else's content. Copied text brings nothing for SEO and exposes you legally. Use it for layout, never for text.

Is Odoo 20 AI SEO optimisation enough?

No: Odoo 20 AI correctly fills in a page's titles, descriptions and keywords, but it does not do the keyword research, intent analysis or authority work that decide rankings. It is an excellent way to avoid pages without meta tags, a common flaw on Odoo websites. It is not an SEO strategy.

What Odoo AI cannot do for you:

    1. Which topics are worth covering: that takes real search volumes, not intuition.
    2. Which intent lies behind a query: informational, comparative or transactional. A misaligned page does not rank, even when well tagged.
    3. Which pages cannibalise each other: two pages targeting the same query compete with each other.
    4. How to build authority: links and citations from other websites, which weigh more than any tag.

This is exactly the approach of our complete SEO audit method, which we also apply to Odoo websites.

Structured data by default: what does it change?

Odoo 20 now adds structured data to page HTML by default, to help Google understand the content and generate rich results. This is real progress: until now, it had to be added manually or through development, and many Odoo websites had none.

Structured data (schema.org, in JSON-LD format) also serves GEO: it explicitly describes who you are, what you sell and what a page says, which helps generative engines extract and attribute information.

One point of attention we know well, since we mark up our own articles: if your site already carries its own JSON-LD (added by hand, by a module or by your agency), upgrading to Odoo 20 can produce duplicate markup, for example two contradictory organisation or article descriptions. After the upgrade, check the source code of your key pages and Google's Rich Results Test.

What is the Odoo 20 llms.txt file?

llms.txt is a file placed at the root of a website that summarises, for language models, what the site contains and which pages to read first; Odoo 20 lets you create it from the website settings. It is a proposed standard, designed as a kind of robots.txt for AI.

Our position is nuanced. The file costs nothing and may help some tools read your site better. But no major generative engine has confirmed using it as a criterion for selecting sources. What gets a brand cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity remains, in our measurements, content quality, a citable structure and above all what other websites say about you. We explain this in SEO vs GEO: differences and how to combine them, and the full method is in our GEO guide for SMEs.

So create the llms.txt, in ten minutes, then spend the rest of your time on what really matters.

Other technical SEO improvements in Odoo 20

Odoo 20 fixes several technical flaws that held Odoo websites back, especially regarding the sitemap, mobile images, pagination and multilingual sites.

    • Cleaner sitemap: it now contains only indexable URLs that return 2XX and stays within Google's size limits. Fewer useless pages offered to the crawler, a crawl budget better used.
    • Adaptive images (srcset): the browser loads an image sized for the screen, which improves mobile speed, a ranking factor.
    • Pagination: SEO logic now prevents duplicate content on paginated pages, such as blog or product lists.
    • Multilingual: static page URLs can be translated per language, and each language can display different images, videos or documents. For a Belgian site in French, Dutch and English, that is a direct gain.
    • Measurement: Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager are configured from a single identifier field in the website settings.
    • Link previews: sharing a page of the site on a social platform displays a preview card.

Should you rebuild your website with Odoo 20?

No, there is no need to rebuild an existing website: most of the SEO gains of Odoo 20 apply automatically after the upgrade, and the AI assistant mainly helps create new pages faster. If your site is old or was never designed for search, however, the upgrade is a good opportunity to rework the structure and content.

Our advice for an SME getting started: use the AI assistant for structure and layout, then rewrite the text with your expertise, your figures and your examples. That is what separates a page that ranks from a generic one. The steps and mistakes to avoid are in building a website for an SME, and all the new features of the release are summarised in Odoo 20: the key new features.

    FAQ

Can you build a website with AI in Odoo 20?

Yes. In Odoo 20, the Website Builder's AI assistant creates a full page, a form or an interactive block from a plain-language description. It can also reorganise the menu, take inspiration from another site, use the products or events in your database and generate images. AI features consume IAP credits.

Is Odoo 20 automatic SEO enough?

No. Odoo 20 AI fills in a page's titles, descriptions and keywords, which avoids missing tags. But it does not choose topics based on real demand, analyse search intent, detect cannibalisation or build the site's authority. Those factors decide rankings.

    What is llms.txt in Odoo?

llms.txt is a file placed at the root of a website that summarises its content for language models. Odoo 20 lets you create it from the website settings. It is a proposed standard: no major generative engine has confirmed using it to choose sources, but the file costs nothing to set up.

Does Odoo 20 add structured data automatically?

Yes. Odoo 20 adds structured data to page HTML by default, to improve SEO and enable Google rich results. If your site already carried its own JSON-LD markup, check after the upgrade that there is no duplicate or contradictory markup on your key pages.

Is the Odoo website good for SEO?

Yes, and Odoo 20 strengthens it: a sitemap limited to indexable pages, adaptive images for mobile, structured data by default, URLs translatable per language and pagination handling. As with any CMS, rankings then depend on content, targeted intent and site authority, which the tool does not produce for you.
