  • Odoo 20: the key new features from Odoo Experience 2026

    October 2, 2026 by

By Timothy Jacqmin, co-founder of Nexuro Digital · October 2026

    TL;DR

    • Odoo 20 was launched on 24 September 2026 during the opening keynote of Odoo Experience at Brussels Expo, by founder Fabien Pinckaers.
    • The common thread of this release: AI takes the driver's seat. Agents create and update records, automate a process described in one sentence, build a web page from a simple prompt and answer accounting questions.
    • Other major advances: offline mode, paying vendor bills directly from Odoo, a cleaner interface, Gantt and Kanban planning for production, and a large batch of new features for Belgian payroll.
    • Budget warning: all AI features now consume IAP credits, bought separately from user licences.
    • If you are still on Odoo 17, its standard support ended in September 2026. Now is the right time to plan your upgrade.

We were at Brussels Expo for Odoo Experience 2026, the annual gathering of the Odoo ecosystem. This edition also marked 20 years of the Belgian software publisher: 20 years, 20 versions and, according to the figures announced on stage, more than 20 million users worldwide. This article sorts through the hundreds of new features in Odoo 20 to keep only what really changes the daily work of a Belgian SME, then answers the question our clients are already asking: should you upgrade, and when?

    What is Odoo 20?

Odoo 20 (or Odoo v20) is the major version of the Odoo business management software released in September 2026, succeeding Odoo 19 and putting artificial intelligence agents at the heart of every application. Like every major version, it is available on all three hosting options: Odoo Online, Odoo.sh and on-premise. Its standard support is planned until September 2029.

Odoo publishes one major version per year, in the autumn, presented at Odoo Experience. Between two major versions, Odoo Online customers receive intermediate releases (19.1, 19.2, 19.3, 19.4), which explains why some of the features listed for Odoo 20 are already live on certain databases.

The 7 Odoo 20 features that matter

The official release notes contain several hundred entries. Here are the ones with the biggest impact for a business, ranked by importance in our view.

    New featureAppWhat it changes
AI agents that automate a process described in one sentenceAllNo more configuring automated actions by hand

    1. AI in the driver's seat: agents that automate your processes

The flagship feature of Odoo 20 is the ability to describe a process in plain language to an AI agent, which sets it up and then runs it on its own. In the official demo, one sentence is enough: "Whenever an email with an order comes in, create the sales order, send the client a confirmation and flag it for me to review." The agent states what it is about to do, then the process runs.

Agents can now be called by automated and scheduled actions, create and update records, work from an uploaded file (a PDF of instructions, for example) and connect to other tools through the MCP protocol. We explain how it works, its limits and its cost in our dedicated article on AI in Odoo 20, with concrete examples.

    2. A website built from a single sentence

The Odoo 20 Website Builder generates a full page, a form or an interactive block from a simple description, and offers AI-assisted SEO optimisation. The editor has also been redesigned, and several technical improvements matter for search: structured data added by default, an llms.txt file for AI engines, a sitemap limited to indexable pages. We analyse them in detail, with our SEO agency perspective, in our article on the Odoo 20 website, including what AI will not do for you.

    3. Accounting: an accounting expert available at all times

Odoo 20 includes an accounting agent you can question in plain language (receivables, gross profit, cash flow, unpaid invoices) and which answers with the exact figures pulled from your reports. It can also run a full audit when you suspect a bank reconciliation error, cycle by cycle, with recommendations.

On the workflow side, the most awaited feature is paying vendor bills directly from Odoo, individually or in batches, with a single signature, through a payment initiation (PISP) interface. Add bill line prediction, stronger duplicate detection and automatic reminders. Everything is explained in our article on accounting and Belgian payroll in Odoo 20, where we also detail the Belgium-specific changes.

    4. Offline mode

Odoo 20 now works without a connection: you can view, edit, archive and create records, and everything syncs when the network comes back. Searches already run remain available. For site teams, field technicians or travelling salespeople, this is a major change in how Odoo is used.

    5. Operations: inventory, manufacturing and planning

Continuous production lets operators record produced quantities directly from work orders: the next operation starts as soon as some parts are ready, without waiting for the whole manufacturing order to finish. Work orders get a new Kanban view (drag and drop between work centres, red for late and orange for today) and a Gantt view with manual rescheduling, with or without buffers.

On the inventory side, Odoo now suggests minimum and maximum levels for reordering rules based on demand history and the desired number of days of coverage. Vendors get a quality rate computed from the checks performed, and a new allocation report shows which orders are waiting on incoming stock.

    6. Sales, CRM and marketing

For prospecting, Odoo 20 lead generation now relies on the Dun & Bradstreet company database instead of Clearbit, for better worldwide coverage. Quotations gain sections reusable as templates, editable margins and a tax-included or tax-excluded display. eCommerce adds returns from the customer portal, a preferred delivery date and pay on invoice. Marketing automation gets a visual journey builder and AI campaign creation. The details are in our article on CRM, eCommerce and marketing automation, with the points to check before switching them on.

    7. Interface, phone and collaboration

Odoo 20 adopts a cleaner interface: Material Symbols icons on a white background, softer colours on tags and statuses, a layout that removes clutter. Discuss records and transcribes video calls, and clicking a line of the transcript jumps to that exact moment of the recording. Clients join a call from their browser, with no download or login. The Phone app offers a call flow designer (hours, locations, teams) and moving an ongoing call to another device.

Which new features specifically concern Belgium?

The Belgian localisation of Odoo 20 focuses on payroll: automated Dimona flow, joint committees, CP 302 flexi-jobs, holiday pay and meal vouchers. For a Belgian SME that runs payroll in Odoo, this is probably the most concrete set of changes in this release. On the e-invoicing side, GLN location identifiers are added to delivery addresses for Peppol, a topic we follow closely in our Peppol guide for Belgium since the 2026 mandate.

How much does AI cost in Odoo 20?

In Odoo 20, every AI feature requires IAP (In-App Purchase) credits, bought on top of user licences. The release notes state this clearly, but Odoo does not publish a price list in that document. In practice, this means two things for your budget:

    1. AI cost is variable: it depends on usage, not on the number of users. An agent that processes every incoming email consumes more than an agent consulted once a week.
    2. Consumption needs monitoring: the "My Subscription" page now centralises the plan, IAP services and database management. We recommend tracking consumption from the very first month.

For the rest of the budget (licences, implementation, hidden costs), our analysis of Odoo pricing in Belgium remains the up-to-date reference.

Should you upgrade to Odoo 20?

Yes if you are on Odoo 17 or older, with no rush if you are on Odoo 19: Odoo's support policy covers each major version for three years, and standard support for Odoo 17 ended in September 2026. A version past standard support no longer receives bug fixes or security updates, unless you pay for extended support (on Odoo.sh for a limited number of versions, or on-premise).

Your versionEnd of standard supportOur recommendation
    Odoo 20September 2029 (planned)Up to date
Odoo 19September 2028 (planned)Upgrade when an Odoo 20 feature brings you a clear gain
    Odoo 18September 2027 (planned)Plan the upgrade in 2027
    Odoo 17September 2026Upgrade now
Odoo 16 or olderEndedPriority migration project

One detail matters for Odoo 17 users: according to the official documentation, a direct upgrade remains possible to a supported major version from any version that reached the end of standard support less than six months ago. Beyond that, the path gets harder. The steps, timeline and pitfalls of such a project are described in our guide to migrating to Odoo, which also applies to a version upgrade.

Our field advice: an upgrade is not only a technical matter. Custom modules must be adapted, and new features only bring value if teams adopt them. That is why we pair every migration with change management, following the Prosci ADKAR method we apply on our projects.

    Our take on Odoo 20

Odoo 20 is the release that turns AI from a gadget into a working tool, but its value will depend on the quality of your data and the clarity of your processes. An agent can only automate a process you know how to describe. The companies that will gain the most are those that already have clean workflows in Odoo, and that is a good test of where to start.

Three practical decisions for the coming weeks:

    1. List your repetitive processes (orders received by email, lead assignment, reminders): they are the first candidates for an AI agent.
    2. Set aside a budget for IAP credits and track consumption, rather than switching on AI everywhere at once.
    3. Check your version and schedule the upgrade according to the table above.

If you want an outside view on what Odoo 20 can bring to your business, that is exactly the role of a partner. Our criteria for choosing an Odoo integrator in Belgium will help you ask the right questions, to us and to others.

    FAQ

    When was Odoo 20 released?

Odoo 20 was presented publicly on 24 September 2026, during the opening keynote of Odoo Experience at Brussels Expo, by Odoo founder and CEO Fabien Pinckaers. Odoo's official documentation gives September 2026 as the release date, with the end of standard support planned for September 2029.

What are the main new features in Odoo 20?

The main new features in Odoo 20 are AI agents able to automate a process described in one sentence, web pages created from a prompt, a conversational accounting agent, paying vendor bills from Odoo, offline mode, continuous production in manufacturing and a cleaner interface. The Belgian localisation receives many payroll updates.

Is AI in Odoo 20 free?

No. In Odoo 20, every AI feature requires IAP (In-App Purchase) credits, bought separately from user licences. The cost therefore depends on how much the agents are actually used, not on the number of users. Consumption can be tracked from the new "My Subscription" page in the user menu.

Should you move from Odoo 17 to Odoo 20?

Yes, and without delay. Standard support for Odoo 17 ended in September 2026: the version no longer receives bug fixes or security updates without paid extended support. According to Odoo's documentation, a direct upgrade remains possible from a version that left standard support less than six months ago.

    Does Odoo 20 work offline?

Yes. Odoo 20 lets you view, create, edit, archive and delete records without an internet connection, and rerun searches you have already performed. All changes sync automatically as soon as the connection returns. This is especially useful for field teams and technicians on site.

    What is Odoo Experience?

Odoo Experience is the annual event of the Odoo ecosystem, organised in Brussels by the publisher. It brings together customers, partners, developers and product teams for three days of talks and exhibition. The 2026 edition took place from 24 to 26 September at Brussels Expo and served as the official launch of Odoo 20.
